Toploader Compatible Binder – FAQs
Fit and compatibility
What is the Toploader Compatible Binder? The Vault X Exo-Tec® Toploader Compatible Zip Binder is designed to store cards that are already in rigid card holders. It has oversized 116 x 91mm side-loading pockets and our signature padded, water-resistant Exo-Tec® cover. It's available in 4-pocket and 9-pocket.
Does the binder come with rigid card holders? No. The binder is designed to hold your own rigid card holders, which are sold separately.
What size rigid card holders fit in the binder? The binder is suitable for standard 3" x 4" 35pt and 55pt rigid card holders. The pockets measure 116 x 91mm. Thicker or oversized rigid card holders (such as 75pt, 100pt+, or wide or tall styles) and magnetic holders are not suitable, as they won't fit.
Is the binder compatible with other brands of rigid card holders? Yes, it's compatible with standard 35pt and 55pt rigid card holders from other brands. Dimensions can vary slightly between manufacturers, so we recommend checking the size of yours against our 116 x 91mm pockets.
Can I store graded cards or slabs in the binder? No. The pockets are sized for standard rigid card holders and will not fit graded slabs.
Can I put cards directly into the pockets? We don't recommend it. The binder has been designed specifically for cards stored in rigid card holders, so loose cards won't be held securely in the larger pockets.
Sleeves and setup
How should I set up my binder? For the best protection, we recommend:
Put your card into a soft sleeve or Exact Fit Sleeve.
Put the sleeved card into a rigid card holder.
Slide the rigid card holder into a Toploader Sleeve.
Place it into your Toploader Compatible Binder.
Do I need to use Toploader Sleeves? No, they're not required to use the binder, but we strongly recommend them. They add a layer of friction, so your rigid card holders stay exactly where you put them, and they help protect the binder pockets over time.
What are Toploader Sleeves? They're sleeves designed to go over a loaded rigid card holder before it goes into the binder. They measure 81 x 108mm (3.2" x 4.25"), fit 35pt and 55pt rigid card holders, and are made from 60-micron, acid-free, PVC-free polypropylene. They come in packs of 100.
How many packs of Toploader Sleeves do I need?
- 4-pocket binder (96 pockets): 1 pack
9-pocket binder (252 pockets): 3 packs
Will my rigid card holders move around inside the pockets? There may be a small amount of movement, depending on the exact size of the rigid card holder. For the most secure fit, we recommend using a Toploader Sleeve.
Will rigid card holders scratch the binder pockets? Rigid card holders are made from hard plastic, so repeatedly putting them in and taking them out may cause light surface marks on the pockets over time. A Toploader Sleeve helps minimise this and prolongs the life of the pockets.
Capacity and design
How many cards does the binder hold?
4-pocket: 12 double-sided pages, holds up to 96 cards in rigid card holders
9-pocket: 14 double-sided pages, holds up to 252 cards in rigid card holders
Why does this binder have a lower capacity than a standard binder? Cards in rigid card holders are bulkier and heavier, so we've reduced the capacity to keep the binder practical and comfortable to use when full. It also reduces strain on the seams, pockets and zip, so your cards stay safe even when the binder is fully loaded.
Why are the pockets side-loading? Side-loading pockets help keep your rigid card holders secure and stable, reducing the chance of them sliding out.
Can I overfill the binder? We don't recommend going over the stated capacity. Overfilling puts extra pressure on the pockets, seams and zip, and may stop the binder from closing properly.
What is the binder made from? The cover is our padded, water-resistant Exo-Tec® material with internal stitching for lasting durability. The pages are made from archival-safe, acid-free, PVC-free materials.
